Hi there, I’m using probably the most common RTK base setup for AOG. I’m using a raspberry pi and ardusimple receiver along with the RTKbase software. I’m possibly about to upgrade to an FJ dynamic gps kit and I’ve been recommend to change from legacy to MSM4. I’m not the best with all of the RTK stuff so some help on how to do this would be much appreciated!
Thanks.
This was discussed at TFF but we would need to know the current set of RTCM messages configured at RTKBase. This is probably the default set that covers both legacy messages and MSM messages:
You can find RTCM message descriptions e.g. here:
Legacy messages are basically RTCM 1004 and 1012. 1005 or 1006 too but the base position info is needed with MSM setup too. RTCM 1007 and/or 1008 are needed with some old receivers, not the one working with MSM4.
The default list is using MSM7 but MSM4 is often preferred for lower payload and sufficient performance.
The payload could be significantly reduced for modern receivers. I only send 1005(5),1074,1084,1094,1124,1230(5) for our own tractors (running F9P, modern Trimble and Novatel receivers). So basically sending MSM4 messages 1074, 1084, 1094 and 1124 instead of the MSM7 default set 1077, 1087, 1097 and 1127. I’m not sending SBAS MSM4 at all because I anyway do not accept anything less than RTK accuracy (and never have any need to backup RTK with SBAS).
My rtkbase configuration is as follows: 1005(10),1008(10),1077,1087,1097,1127,1230(10) and I use it whether on f9p or old swiftnavigation receiver (12 years old) or even septentrio X5 as for the neighbors no one complains about my configuration with topcon in particular
Not a topic of this thread but there are many (old) receivers that do not work with your message set. We used to have the Topcon AGI-4 receiver with Fendt and with AGCO (MF/Valtra/Challenger) SW and both failed with MSM but worked fine with legacy messages. Nothing lost there as these are dual constellation receivers and do not gain anything from MSM1097 or 1127.
I think someone mentioned the AGI-4 with Topcon SW worked with MSM messages.
