Hi, I’m installing an auto steer system in my 5425 John deer and I noticed a 3 pin plug in the cab (reference the picture). It looks like a proprietary outlet of some kind and my question is, does anyone know if this can be used to power my auto steer system? I will be using a 24v motor for steering, besides that it would have to power the pcb and charge the tablet. Does anybody have experience using this plug for this AOG system? Thanks!
If it was me id put a new supply in from the battery dedicated for your job then put a main master switch in that blank switch space. You might be glad of that power socket for another purpose
Those are called “AMP 3Pin Connectors”. I use them for all our monitors and control boxes that are below 30A. (Pretty much all of them.)
Remember, this picture is the harness side plug. You’ll need to mirror this for the tractor side plug.
Awesome this is exactly what I was looking for! Quick question, does that mean this plug can supply 12v up to 30 amps?
Thanks!
That’s technically what it says, so long as it has 10ga wires. However, personally I don’t really go over 20. They have the potential to get pretty warm if you run a bunch of amps through them. For example, I have an electric air compressor on my planter that takes a full 20-25 amps under constant duty. That is wired directly to the battery with its own fuse.
I also forgot to mention something VERY important. The plug may be able to handle higher amps with the heavy wires, put that does not mean the tractor plug is setup for that. You’ll have to find that out yourself, because I don’t have a clue what it is for your tractor. It probably says in the Operators Manual, if you still have it.
I appreciate the help thank you!
