Budget GPS receiver and tablet/computer

New to AgOpenGPS, so forgive me if this has been discussed before and I have not found the page yet. In search of a quality GPS receiver that has the capability to calibrate AgOpenGPS location by itself with the possibility of being retrofitted into RTK board down the road.

I watched a video (granted it was older software) where AgOpen GPS was run using only a USB GPS that was capable of sending NMEA comms. Ideally, this would be a good fit for our operation right now as we are only planning to use the software to manually steer and spray a couple hundred acres per year. Given that newer software is available, I have wondered if a bluetooth connection to the tablet/computer is allowable to run the software like the Garmin Glo 2. We have no issues with mounting the reciever to the roof of the cab either as I have looked into ardusimples basic receivers. But I remain unsure as to whether a receiver “must” have a board to connect to the software. Any help or recommendations as to a quality GPS for our intended purposes would be greatly appreciated.

Additionally, we will begin searching for a tablet to mount in the tractor to run this application, so recommendations regarding tablet/computer would be appreciated, too.

Welcome. The simple rtk2b board from ardusimple is the way most people go. https://www.ardusimple.com/product/simplertk2b-basic-starter-kit-ip65/
It will work fine on its own just plugged into a computer using USB and will blow the socks off the Garmin glo. And it can take rtk corrections and can be integrated into a steer board easily later on if you want.

Get a used Panasonic toughpad fzg1 and you will have a system for $500 dollars or so that will be easy to upgrade.

100% go the F9P. Can just plug in with USB to get signal into a laptop easily. And if you decide to upgrade to steering later down the line, you wont be buying parts twice

New variant, with built in tilt sensing. If anyone is designing a new board then maybe this is something to look at to see if it’s a step up.
