Hi all, so this is AOG related but a bit of a side project and looking for those with experience on the matter. I also posted this to the telegram group but thought cross posting here might be better for those who come after me.
I have a Deere 4320 tractor (from 1972) steering with a Phidgets motor and foam wheel setup right now. I would like to take it to the next level with hydraulic autosteer but the steering valve Deere designed in the 70s indexes mechanically to the front axle by means of a piston in the steering valve. Example of the valve here:
Seeing as it will need to be replaced with a modern geroler style to eliminate that mechanical index, I have found a modern drop-in equivalent available from a seller on ebay (listing here):

This is all well and good but I still need to source an Electrohydraulic valve and mount it somewhere on the tractor. (Deere did maximize space really well on that tractor, so finding a spot is hard) I, however, discovered that Danfoss sells these nifty valves that would likely fit under the dash and integrate everything.
So now to my question: Does anyone have any experience with these Danfoss valves? How hard are they to acquire and setup with AOG (either the PWM model or CANBUS)? and would this be more than the tractor is worth in cost? I have a modest milling machine and lathe and feel confidant that I could make the appropriate mounts, but finding ordering information or just configuration options feels like asking for water in the desert. I hope to have some direction on either experiences or who someone might know that is willing to deal with an individual buying one vs. an OEM buying 10,000. I’m very good with wiring and have completely redone the tractor with 93 different electrical circuits for other fun projects and quests, and some of those circuits are to integrate the PCB V5 into the harness seamlessly. So that I’m not afraid of either. I just want to find more information, or figure out what part numbers to search for to find a closed center steering valve that also has solenoids ![]()
