Erratic speed on 20/20

I’ve got a steady speed in ag open and in GPS out, fluctuates maybe .2 mph, but on my gen 2 20/20onitprs all of a sudden it will fluctuate ±1mph sometimes.. I’m outputting from GPS Out at 5hz and 38400 baud rate. Amy suggestions ok how to stabilize the speed?

The 20/20 seems very sensitive to the timing of the messages, as if it uses the msg timing to calc speed instead of using the speed data in the msgs. GPS Out can’t output a steady stream of msgs because it relies on getting the data from AgOpenGPS and there’s a variable amount of delay from the processing in Windows. Most people find the 20/20 is much steadier if they feed it directly from the GNSS receiver. How you do that depends on which PCBs and GNSS receivers you are using.

You can’t get roll corrected data straight from the receiver though can you?

No. How hilly are your fields?

I’ve seen at least 12 degrees of roll on some of the hills.

Then I think you’re stuck with GPS Out. I have used it too but I have a speed encoder/rader input for planting population, and my 20/20 only uses the gps position for mapping and row clutching. I did not notice speed variations, only that my 20/20 thought the gps data was only 50% quality and it always showed 1hz less then actual.

I was using GPS_OUT having erratic speeds. Switched to direct connection with receiver and it is very steady in comparison. But my fields are flat so roll isnt a problem. Yield maps are much more uniform with steady speed.

I’m not too concerned about the yield maps, those should smooth/average out in SMS I believe. Planting though with an erratic speed was going to be an issue. I’ve got radar in all the tractors so that’s easy enough to get my speed from that.

Would it be possible though to get just the speed directly from the receiver and use GPS out for the mapping?

With radars, set the 20/20 to use the radar input for its primary speed.
