Fully Autonomous

Good Morning all, I am with an organization that is looking for an option to put on an a 125 HP tractor to run fully autonomous, yet be able to be run it from remote control to turn at the end of the field or back it up if we need to.
Reason we need it remote control is there is not an option for the operator to be in the cab as it is not safe.
Any leads on this would be extremely helpful. If you want to help us out i will get you to one of my team members.
Thank you!

Hi, In past I worked on testing of autonomous vehicle and I have some experience with integration of the ROS based software into the vehicle.

To make the tractor full autonomous require to have modules which can handle all possible scenarios what can happen. Depends on available time/resource it can be planned what all modules will be included related to functionality and safety what is also important part.

I am using the AOG system on my tractor an is really good for field operation, but to make autonomous tractor this is not enough. For this will be needed some multi domain platform like ROS which can handle multi cores execution to cover all what is needed.

Is your project integration for only one tractor or to make it for multiple integration?

Safety is always important but it seems you are considering a very different scenario from the above. Say mines on a field are the biggest safety issue for the tractor driver, I would consider other road traffic, traffic lights, pedestrians etc. less of a concern. I could think of the tractor driving into a ditch being a risk if autonomous steering fails but if that happens with a reasonable likelihood, it isn’t as bad as a mine exploding under the tractor when the driver is present just to avoid driving into a ditch?
