Is the UM982 an F9P killer for AOG?

@chri5k @Guy1000 Can you find that module on easyeda, verify the dimensions and send me the name? I’d like to see if I can add it to the latest AiO v5.

Doesn’t look like anyone has made a footprint yet. I will draw one up when i get a chance. It would also work to just add a header for a GPS uart and power as these do come with a short pigtail that could be soldered to the board.

Yeah, I didn’t find anything on easyeda either but I did find some dimensions on AliExpress, enough to know the overall size and mounting hole placement. Is there a model number on it other then um982? How many pins, 6? 2 uarts + 5V & gnd?

If you click on more in the above link to topgnss, there are dimensions and placement in the specifications.

I intend to try the new firmware and your configuration. Am hoping it helps with the roll. The roll does seem very steady but when in the tractor and on rough ground or go over a bump or hole it steers when it shouldn’t. My observation was that bynav roll jumps around when stationary but when driving over the same bump/hole the steering goes straight.

Really need to find some more time to test your config.

I bought a UM960 it seems to work fine, but I can’t get the refresh rate to be stored permanently so that when I give it power again it starts again with the same settings. Someone help me thanks.

Did you input the saveconfig command after changing the settings?

UM960 reach a temperature 47-49 degree Celsius

Yeah was thinking same thing, but in summer?

It should be good up to 85 °C

A gentleman on the forum who is doing work an ESP32 AIO board pointed me to this UM982 module. It is a pin for pin match for the Ardusimple F9P Micro but you only need one. It can be had with SMA or IPEX antenna connectors.

Basically same price as micro f9p, doesn’t seem worth it vs ali um982 1 2 boards that are half the price.

Received new um982 it has full header and battery.

I actually designed and ordered PCB’s for a um982 in micro F9P format but I never bothered assembling them as you can buy modules from aliexpress and even LCSC for less than a bare SOC. The modules from aliexpress are so cheap they are hard to beat. Plus the one in ByNav footprint is an official dev board.

Agreed. I was just putting it out there. You do only need one of these for dual whereas you need two F9P micros.

I like the “standard” UM982 boards for ~$120USD. Except for the antenna jack placement. Wish they were on the opposite side of the board.

It shoud be good for the micro pcb.

What’s the best solution for that? Just leave the board sitting at a slight slope and keep the PCB clear of parts by the ant connectors?

I was playing around an ESP32 board using the UM982. I solved it with a notch in the board. Not elegant but it worked.

If the board is left at an angle, keep in mind the MMCX connector jack will allow connector plug to rotate freely so a bit of area beneath the board would need to be clear so the plug does not rotate into a component on the board.
