John Deere 6190R install

A JD install I did a couple of years ago with a HYD valve, motor setup doesn’t appeal to me.
Pics will be from start to finish.

Cleaning these out, as may need them

The valve

Bracket for valve

fitted

10 pipes coming out of the cab

took a bit of finding what went where but jacking the cab up helped

Went & got a few hoses made, & a few fittings

A few extenders should make life easier connecting hoses

hoses fitted to the valve

And a main shut off valve…which I have used once, but its there if needed, I’m the only driver really.

On to the wiring

Onto the WAS, this proved to be a real pain, mostly for different reasons that I will cover later.
First attempt at mounting

Will come back to it later, back to the wiring

5 volt reducer fitted

And a few earths

fingers crossed

Let’s see if we have power

Yep

Centering the wheels

The WAS you installed is fine, but I recommend installing the sensor in the steering knuckle like the original. Everything’s hidden and you won’t accidentally break the WAS lever with your foot :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ve created complete kits that make this task easier - https://navisklep.pl/en/p/steering-sensor-in-steering-knuckle-set/

I’ve also included a technical drawing of how to turn the pin.

The most difficult part is drilling the hole in the tractor’s front axle.

What’s this for? The AIO has a built in 5v regulator to power the WAS already.

I didn’t know that.
Good to know for the next time.

Back to the WAS, tried this

too tight

tried a few other ideas

time to modify it a bit

Nope

Settled on this in the end, well what I thought was the end

Ethernet

Installed

steps back on

and a bit of paint

testing

Ran into a problem, steering wouldn’t kick out when grabbed, after a bit of advise from here I found out I needed the pressure sensor jumper

Whats with the blue wire you soldierd underneath? Youve already got the cytron to pin 18 wire soldierd
Nice install
The landrover WAS are good but a pig to install. The pencil type linear sensors are alot easier to install and possibly nearer.

Just going by the advice I was given at the time.

I tried the linear sensor too, but I couldn’t get it to return any voltage, maybe I got a dud, had the same with a landrover type too.

So got it going, spreading dung with a rear discharge spreader.

Only problem was the autosteer would randomly drop out, then once or twice it would just steer full left.

I played about with it for a while but things got busy & I just ran it as guidance, not a problem for me as had been running a gps for 25 years or so, Trimble 250 & a 150 before that.

Then in spring 25 had a bit of time to look at it, put the multimeter on it & the first problem was an intermittent earth, so earthed it to the chassis of the tractor, next was the sensor wasn’t working, had bought a pair off eBay so fitted the other one & it wasn’t working either.

Bought another off Amazon this time & it worked, so fitted it slightly differently

that worked but have since altered it again to this, main arm slightly longer & the bracket swivel on top rather than the front, can see the earth wire too.

working well now

Then the tractor was at the dealers & they had the cab off, when it came back it would go full left if I hit the steer switch, thought they maybe had wired it back up wrong.

So started checking things out & found this on the WAS cable

That will have been my earth problem also, dealer had wired everything up perfectly as they found it.
Put another steer switch in while I was in there, as the green one is often under the palm of my hand.

That’s the end of this install, maybe it has helped someone, as a picture speaks a thousand words.

I’ll be back looking advice in a couple of weeks when I start the next one…

Great documentation!

Next time, you can try another tractor with the UM982, TM171.
