Hello all,
First go at getting AOG up and running…Used as just a standard lightbar this spring to do some planting, but got the autosteer working for the combine over the summer…Still a ways to go with tuning and making some improvements on install; but all in all pretty happy with first day of runnning. I am using single f9p+imu, Land Rover WAS, MFA 970D471 motor, friction wheel from palmbeachbots…Also for anyone in USA I am using INDOT Ntrip service for RTK corrections. This is free just have to register for credentials; Might be worth a look to see if your state’s DOT has this free service
Have you run any corn? Is hand driving the light bar planting close enough that you can run on autosteer combining and stay on the row well enough?
Sorry, I am merely a Tillage/Grain cart operator on the corn ground… So I cant really say much there…But I can say that for shits and giggles I loaded up the ab line I used to plant the soybeans with and the autosteer in the combine was following a row pretty good, probably not the “right” row as there are width differences, but it was tracking the same straight line. With all the options and offsets/nudge features id think it is definitley doable (as long as RTK corrections are involved) …I also think I read on here somewhere about people getting the row sense units working with AOG which would be excellent for corn id think.
I think that would depend entirely on how well you can hand steer it. This was my first year with AgOpen, and first real job i did was planting all my corn. I thought i had everything “close”, but definitely had some issues in my offsets and steering settings. When i combined it this fall it worked alright, but i was using the nudge button quite more than i would’ve liked. I think i had it set at a 2" or 3" nudge which for the most part was plenty to keep the rows centered. With that being said its hard to say if its a tractor issue or combine issue, i’m running single+IMU in both and at times in the combine i wonder if i shouldn’t be running dual receivers.
Being able to use row feelers in AgOpen would be a game changer for corn. Even in the new stuff they’re still using row feelers to account for any planter drift or inaccuracy. Deere’s Autopath might be different since its using a receiver on the planter for guidance and to create the lines, but i’m sure the row feelers are still providing input to the system.
