si je puis me permettre j’ai pu voir un système d’engagement par glissement peut être sera t il long a déclencher en urgence peut être un pivot aurait il été plus judicieux
it’s a compromise
there are the partisans who have the motor behind the steering wheel which activates it in the field and which turns this one in engagement. usually it’s big sprockets and it’s the “button” mode
and
conversely those which engage to guide and which disengage it to turn, generally it is small sprockets or friction with the “switch” mode

Might you show me how do you link the two small plates to the steering colum? I’ve a 6280 and It seems to be similar.
