I have an existing F9P Base station but I have 2 farms that are too far apart for one base station to reach the 2nd farm. Can I correct this issue by simply adding a second base station with an XBEE at the 2nd farm? I am using the XLR version but do not have a good line-of-sight between the 2 farms.
There are a few options you can do. I made a portable base station i take to really far fields for tha exact purpose. I have a stake to mark where the GPS antena shoud go in those fields so that i can put it in the exact same spot each time, and load the location coordinates rather than waiting for it to survey in.
I have a few other fields that are closer to my main base station, so i have just an xbee on a very long pipe rigged to be a repeater. It basically takes the singal from my current base station/xbee and repeates the signal which gives me an extra 4 miles of range from the repeater. I usally set it up and run it off a dewalt drill battery when i’m in those fields. That way i still get to use my house’s base station.
There are a whole bunch of other options i’m sure others will share, but those are the two that have worked best for me.
Thanks Fastrunner… I only have the 2 locations but the farms in between are not my property for the repeater idea. I thought about a portable base station, which I may pursue if I find that one location on top of a roof does not give me sufficient coverage. Good to know that either of these options can be used successfully though. This is my first year with RTK and I have lots of trees around, so I may find that either farm would benefit from a repeater as the trees fill in. Thanks again!
