No RTK, only float, F9P and xbee's

Hi there, i have read around on the forums, and not found a solution to my problem.

I am running the agopen all in one standard boards, with RTK corrections via xbee radio’s. I plugged my base in after being unplugged from its power source over the winter. I was testing it with a new agopengps build in a new tractor, and was only able to get rtk float. base station F9P lights are as follows

“GPS>Xbee” Flashing
“Xbee>Gps” Off
“Gps Fix” Flashing
“No RTK” Solid on

Rover (Tractor) Lights are as follows:

“GPS>Xbee” Off
“Xbee>Gps” Flashing
“Gps Fix” Flashing
“No RTK” Solid on

Is it normal for the base station to have “No RTK” Lit, or is that my problem? I setup that base station last year to have fixed coordinates, so i understood it to have a very short boot up time and to send RTK corrections very soon after being turned on.

thanks for the help!

Oh, and i flashed my new tractor’s teensy and f9p with the config o matic program. (Awesome) i assume that program sets the baud rate correct for xbee radios?

thanks again!

Hi,

Yes it is normal that the base station has the “No RTK” light on, since the base station does not use RTK (it provides RTK corrections, but does not use RTK corrections).

However your tractor “No RTK” light should go off if it is receiving RTK from your base station.

I also had a problem with the base station not communicating with the rover via XBee. My issue turned out to be a mismatch between the baud rate on the F9P and the XBee.

Thread here if the details help you…

thankyou!! i now have some leads to pursue. i will be working on this soon. thanks! very helpful to know it is normal to have “no RTK” at base. i am guessing it is a baud rate issue, although i tried to check and it seemed to match. i will do more investigating.

thanks!

Not feeling very smart right now, but glad to have fixed my problem. i was on the verge of contacting ardusimple.

I am building two systems, both with the same settings, and one of them has an rtk fix the other not. had me stumped. while switching between, and trying to figure out anything i could i realized that i had the xbee and gps antennas swapped. switched them the right way and had an instant rtk fix.

this means that the f9p will see enough satallites with both my external 900mhz xbee antenna and the direct mount ardusimple xbee antenna, for it to work and get a fix. amazing. conversly, the xbee cant see anything when connected to the gps antenna.

also, interestingly, when looking at the uart 2 settings in u center, pluging into the gps port on the f9p, they read as they should (RTCM 3, and 115200) when plugging into the xbee usb port on the f9p, they read all different settings. that had me down a rabbit hole for a long time.

glad i can quit beating my head against the wrong antenna!

smarter next time,
