NTRIP RTK corrections - Hotspot and Cellular Data Rates

Implementing an F9Pstandard base station (with survey antenna) and F9Pstandard rover setup for RTK lightbar steering guidance using AOG. Planning to avoid a PCB containing IMU and Teensy for simplicity’s sake as this application will not require the added complexity. United States application with hardware being sourced primarily from ardusimple.com.

The base station will utilize WiFi NTRIP master to obtain internet connection. RTK2Go will be utilized as NTRIP caster.

In lieu of a dedicated mobile hotspot or cell phone hotspot, can the 4G NTRIP master be used on the rover to provide cellular signal for obtaining RTK corrections from RTK2Go for use specifically with AOG? The appeal here is that it would consolidate hardware and potentially establish internet connection more seamlessly upon startup.

Secondly, looking for shared experiences on expected cellular data rates needed on a per hour or per day basis to obtain RTK corrections at the rover unit. My current research has yielded 2-4MB per hour as an estimate but is not based on user experience. Hoping to obtain a higher confidence estimate.

The driving force behind this cellular data rate request is to estimate SIM card costs. Currently planning on using Simbase as the SIM card provider if data requirements are sufficiently low.

Their pricing as of writing this post is $0.01/day for Verizon or AT&T USA networks or $0.02/day for T-Mobile USA network (I understand Verizon is not supported with 4G NTRIP master). $0.01/MB of data usage for all three carriers. No contract, pay-as-you-go, can pause SIM cards at anytime to avoid the daily charge though it’s minimal.

Having an estimated data rate for RKT corrections at the rover will help us estimate these SIM card costs.

Thank you for the interest and support. Hopefully this post can pay it forward and help others in the future too.

Check with your state. Quite a few have a no cost correction offering. I’m in Iowa and use the state DOT service

Thank you for the reference. I should have specified, we are in IL which does not offer a free correction service. As such, I’ll be setting up our own base station using RTK2Go as the caster service

In either case, I’ll still need to pull NTRIP RTK corrections down to my rover unit(s) via cellular network.
