I have freshly installed AOG on my tractor, and everything works fine.
But now I have the problem that I have lots of pre-planted flower beds per field, and since I have planted them without RTK, they are not perfectly parallel nor straight.
This is not a problem while I drive my tractor manually during interrow weeding.
Now I would like to have my tractor also steer in those pre-planted beds with GPS.
What I have tried so far is to record an AB contour for each bed. But this is not really fun, as with this approach I get about 20 to 50 lines per field, so there is the problem of cycling through them, which I have to do for each line. And as most of my beds are around 100 to 150 m, this is a lot.
I also gave recorded paths a try, but there is also the problem of having to load and unload each path every time I get to a new bed. And I cannot record a continuous path as my headlands are rather short, and I usually have to back up once to get into the next row.
So now my question is, there a better way of doing this? As in the future, I would also like to put an less skilled driver on the tractor.
This will be less of a problem in the future as we replant with GPS. But a lot of flowers will still be there for a couple of years.
No sadly not, as when there was a rather strong bent in the bed, we would try to correct for it, to make i somewhat more straight so the interrow weeder driver would have it less difficult.
Is there a way to preplan a field, for example with something like FarmingOS and then load this field on to the machine.
So i would drive each bed and then build a custom field out of it.
I use the recorded path in our orchard. Same problem as you have, trees were planted by hand and not exactly straight or parallel.
I’d suggest to record 2 or 3 passes complete with turns and then go back and let AOG drive your test pass. You may find you need to exaggerate your turns and/or tune your setup. I’m confident you’ll be pleased.
As Ray has said, the recorded path feature does not steer as tight as you can steer. Big easy turns. Especially on smaller equipment.
Edit: I will also say that Ray has used and tested the recorded path more than most anyone except maybe Brian himself. Ray has really put this through the testing and head aches for years. If Ray says it about recorded path, you’ll be best to listen.
I finished about half of my beds, all the test runs after the recording went well, so i guess this is the way to go for me, thanks again Ray and Kent for the fast replies.
