Relay driver issues

Hey all, hope someone can help! I am using an original RC12 board with the relay driver.

I’m having some issues with section control through the relay driver. It’s acting very odd. When I first hook the driver up to the relay board, it works. Everything works. After a short amount of time (a couple minutes) I’ll try it again and nothing works and the mod light is red. When I unhook the qwiic connector mod light turns blue. The driver will not work again until I quickly resolder the pca9535 chip. I just run the soldering iron over the solder joints and make sure they look good. I then hook it back up and it works again for a brief time.

I had done some reading from other posts and it was mentioned to try a diode (1N4007 if I remember correctly) and a capacitor (470uf) so I did. I’ll post a picture what I was doing as maybe that’s the problem. I’m assuming the diode or capacitor doesn’t go through the qwiic connector but rather the 5v and gnd pins that are separate on the relay driver? (The picture will only show the diode but I did the same thing with the capacitor.) The only way to get it to work again was to resolder and that works every time. Any clue what might be going on?

I’ve switched out relay boards (2 different 16 relay boards and 1 8 relay board.) It did the same thing for all scenarios. It was even doing it when the relay driver was not hooked up to the relay board.

I also checked the wiring from my rc12 board to the relay driver through the qwiic connector and that was correct as was the orientation of the relay driver on the relay board.
