Firstly I am new here so I have many questions for the community
I am ploughing soil with an old dozer , 5m width
I am really aiming for an accurate light bar for pass too pass , dozer usually plough at a slow speed of 4km an hour
I used to use a gps heading which was better then nothing , I am really in need of straight line guidance however 20cm and under would be ideal
Firstly , If there is a government tower within range for rtk ntip , do you still need phone service for this
Secondly like most we do not have service or reception out in the fields ,
Starlink now sells 12v options for internet services anywhere in our country , could this be used to achieve RTK ? We have internet service at the main farm
Sounds like you are from Australia?
The gov NTRIP corrections need to be downloaded over the internet so phone service needs to be available, even if you were close by to a station, they are not broadcasting over radio.
Starlink is a very feasible option to get corrections into AOG if you are within range of a government station.
Just connect your tablet to the internet via starlink, stream the corrections and away you go
There is the option to use PPP corrections from the Satellites directly to the GPS receiver, very similar performance to RTK without the internet hassle.
The Tersus BX50-TAP is available for $500usd, plus $720usd 3years or $300usd 1year corrections with very similar to RTK performance.
Hman , if I had a fp9 at my house could I just use the internet and Starlink to connect to the rover on the tractor ? Without connecting to any other base station?
I’m not exactly sure I know what you mean, and I don’t use my own base station so I’m probably not as well informed as others but here goes…
If you have your own base at the house you can get the corrections to the tractor in 2 ways. Either by radio, one at the tractor and one on the base. The Xbee radios connect to the F9p and are good for a couple of KM depending on terrain and base station antenna height. Zero internet required for this solution either at the house or the tractor. If you research the xbee it won’t take you long to understand this system and its limitations.
Option 2 is I think what you are asking, and it’s more suitable for those who are too far from a Gov base station to get reliable corrections.
It involves having your own base station(F9p or similar) and internet connection at the house, shed etc sending the corrections out via the internet using a 3rd party like RTKbase or similar.
You then dial into these connections from the tractor via the internet just like you would a gov NTRIP base. Requires internet at both locations and more infrastructure than using the gov NTRIP service.
Thank you
Appreciate the information,
Therefor I had internet at the shed and a base I could potentially use Starlink in the paddock , if I where to far for a radio range base ?
