Hi all. Where have people mounted buttons/switches in cabs for activating steering? Looking for ideas and inspiration for the tractor I’m using, but also feel free to dump pictures from other makes in like the wheel angle sensor examples topic.
I have a New Holland t6.180 electro command, 2018. Anyone else fitted a button in somewhere convenient? I wanted to use the 3rd button on the gear handle, usually used for headland turn management which the tractor doesn’t have. However it is mounted on a circuit board and is potentially canbus so don’t want to mess anything up there! Other thoughts were to 3d print a clip onto the same handle for a 4th button or to attach a button to the baler bar we have on the right-hand side which you can mount control boxes to. Want to keep things tidy in the cab and to make as few extra holes as possible to keep the cab “as is” for resale.
Thanks for any input, and feel free to put other tractor brands up for other people who are looking.
Right how do I do this because I can’t get my head around it on the GitHub. Do I need another programme to hack into the canbus? And once I have done this how do I connect the canbus to AOG board?
Ive read recently that someone has taken a new holland joystick apart and fitted a button on the front side in a comfortable place. That looks a good job aswell
Once you fish the wire down through the steel tube of the handle, its no bother to bring it out to the back of the armrest. There is a little rubber grommet in the steel tube that you have to carefully split with a sharp knife and then ream it out a little to get the 2 wires from the new switch down.
Id be inclined to pull your joystick apart and see where abouts you can drill a hole. You can get aome small momentary buttons that would look good in your joystick. Maybe your headland button can be used if you take the whatever is on the back of it off , shouldn’t cause no errors if you havnt got headland management anyway
It is very neat, there is only about 7mm of thread so it protrudes very little into the handle, in fact so much so that I only barely got the nut on the back what with the thickness and curve of the handle.
This one is practically the same, though the button is orange and might look better on your handle:
Also, placed some of my daughters red plasticine around where I wanted to fit the push button, then closed the 2 halves of the handle together to make sure there was enough clearance before I drilled any holes. Turns out there was lots of room in that particular spot.
Not really, all the buttons are directly attached to one circuit board as it is all operating on a CAN network. I didn’t want to go hacking into the original wiring/circuit boards like that so that it could be left as original as possible.
Its also a bit of a reach for your thumb which already has enough to do!!!
For me at least, the button is in a nicer position and the push button has a more positive feel to it than the other buttons.
