Using autosteer and grade control over existing CAN bus

Hey there, I’m new to AgOpenGps and looking into implementing autosteer and grade control for a HYDRO MAXX drainage tile trencher. This trencher has all hydraulic steering and grade control implemented through the CAN bus, or at least to my knowledge that is the case.

I would like my autosteer and grade control systems to communicate to existing hydraulic valves through the CAN bus. How far along are we in this capability? I read recently that the ISOBUS standard is beginning to be adapted into some AgOpenGps applications.

Some direction on what has been done, and where I might start would be great. I am an electrical engineer with experience programming embedded hardware in assembly, C and C++. I will be happy to contribute to this project wherever possible.
