It average the time from the last 12 pulses instead using just the last pulse time. it make the readings much smoother in my case.
It’s definitely recommended if the pulses are fast.

Thanks to all!! Separate shielded flow cable did the trick! Now I’ll have to see if I can tune the PID.
Which other wires were bundled with the sensor?
Constant 12v, 5 section wires and the valve 2 wires. I noticed that when the valve was still the flow meter was accurate.
