I have installed AOG a couple of tractors now and a local farmer asked if I could help him get a setup in his tractor. However the only thing is it is a tracked tractor and I am not sure if this is possible in AOG. Two main questions that come to my mind how do I fit a WAS on this and how would I set the tractor wheel dimensions. I have some ideas but I was wondering if anyone on here has had experience in this.
I was having a hard time finding information on here but I had a chat with AI on some possible options. It said I could hook up the WAS to the steering valve linkage and just base it on the stroke direction. I would need to find that but it doesn’t sound like too bad of an idea. It also said ideally a dual WAS would be used for a tracked tractor. And that Kind of makes sense as well since tracked tractors can move left or right on a pivot a lot quicker then regular tractors. I would imagine it would be able to handle the quicker changes easier but I am not sure if this is necessary.
I am still not so sure on what to measure for the wheel settings. Also I have some concerns this might end up being too touchy on the movements. Any thoughts or pit falls on what I have come up with so far? I do plan to set it up with a Phidgets with the gear system. I just don’t want the guy to buy all of this and find out it was flop. Appreciate any help.
If you look under my username, at the topics that I started, you should find one where I talk about steering a John Deere two track. After you’ve read that through let me know if you have any specific questions that still need answering.
I found the post and that is pretty cool. I am trying to decide if I want to do this for sure. I think if it was my tractor I would probably pursue this more easily but it is a little bit farther outside of my comfort zone and I really don’t want to mess up his tractor. Plus I have enough going on over the next couple of months as it is but this could be a decent winter project if I have nothing going on. I will probably spend some time on and off looking more into this but I may send you a message in the future if I want to try to figure this out.
It’s always been a bit tricky to tune and I’m not completely satisfied with the autosteer performance so I’ve been wondering how to do it better. I’ve wondered whether using a Keya would work better but AOG still wants a WAS signal and it’s pivot point still isn’t under the rear axle so the whole setup remains a hack.
