John Deere 7215r Hydraulic auto steer

have a 4.5 board that I got set up for autosteer with fidgets motor and it worked great on my John Deere 4050. We have now upgraded to a 7215r that is autotrac ready. I really want to continue to use Ag Open GPS and not pay for the John Deere stuff. I saw some old discussions on tapping into the John Deere Steer Module directly from the 4.5 board but want to be careful not to create any issues with the new tractor. I saw in the previous discussion that there were some issues with doing this Controlling existing Deere hydraulic autosteer valve with AOG - #68 by WildBuckwheat. I was curious if there has been any progress in getting some of these issues resolved. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Just in case someone else is looking at this project I thought I would give an update. I was nervous about hooking up the AOG to my autosteer ready tractor but it was a lot simpler than I thought. All that you need to do is run two wires to the existing wheel angle sensor. What I did was locate the connector for sensor on the very front of the tractor under the radiator. Your can follow the wire up and there is a connector there. I did not cut into the harness but stripped back the purple and brown wires and soldered in my 2 wires. Purple is signal and brown is ground to the AOG board. There is a gromet in the floor of the cab on the left of the steering wheel. I ran my wires up through that where all of the other wires come up through into the cab. Next you will need to order connectors and pins for the hydraulic control valve. I did not want to cut into the factory harnesses. I just unconnected all of the existing connectors. Ran six wires down through the same grommet and down to the hydraulic steering valve that is just behind the steps of the tractor. there will be 3 signal wires and 3 grounds. One signal wire goes to the CO solenoid on the hydraulic valve and to the lock pin on AOG. The next wire goes from the right solenoid to the right pin on AOG and the last signal wire goes from the Left solenoid to the Left pin on the AOG. Other forums discuss some of this but it was a little unclear how to hook all of it up. When you go through the autosteer configuration wizard make sure that the WAS sensor is set to differential mood. When you enable auto steer it will enable the lock solenoid and the tractor will steer itself without the steering wheel moving. Auto steer works great but won’t disengage if you grab the steering wheel and try to turn. You have to manually disengage auto steer and then you can steer again. There is a module in the steering wheel that can sense when you move the steering wheel and disable auto steer for you. Some people were working on connecting to this but I have not worried about it yet. I am just happy to have a working system. I would be happy to share any knowledge I have if it helps someone else get up and running. Sometimes it is hard to find all of the information in the forums. Everyone seems to be a lot smarter than me and just knows how to program and hook everything up.

Do you ger eny error codes when driving with aog? Is it GEN 4 on GEN 5?

You should ensure this function, it’s for your safety !!

Here you will find some information about the JD encoders

Thanks, I have been looking for something like this. I saw an old post that someone was working on it. I want to get it hooked up but as you now sometimes you just have to get things working to get things done and then come back to get the finer details and conveniences.

In response to North’s question about error codes. I have an information message that I don’t have a GPS reciever. I think if you search deep in the codes it says something about the hydraulic valve is disconnected but there are no warnings or errors that pop up on the screen. Also, when I engage auto steer there are no errors or messages. I think I have a gen 3 monitor but I don’t run the autosteer on it. It runs on windows tablet
