Recomendations for mobile routers with SIM card slot

Since AOG is maybe becoming UDP only, it would be nice to have a list of routers people are having good success with. We tried the Windows Mobile Hotspot feature, which was a disaster. With each device that was added, the latency got worse, and the latency wasn’t great to start with. At this time we are using Verizon’s latest Jetpack which is working well. Other routers worth mentioning:

Pepwave BR1 Mini
Pros : made to run on 12V directly in an automotive setup, ethernet ports
Cons : slow start up

Windows Hotspot is awful.

I just use one of these. Cheap, cheerful and it does the job.

Edit: just thought. I’m still working off USB for now, but if you’re using Ethernet, then you’re obviously going to need a full size router with Ethernet interfaces.

  • This is powered with USB C and has the option for external antennas or internal. Also has an ethernet port. No Wi-Fi capability.

This is the other one I use when I need to set up a network on the move. It’s really stable and the only issue that I have with it is that the antennas sometimes rattle loose if it’s on a moving vehicle. A bit of Gorilla Tape cures this problem.

Other than that it ticks most boxes.
