I have almost successfully set up a base with Stefal’s RTKBase software with the intention of using it with my Trimble equipment. Running it with a raspberry pi 3b and an F9p. My question is, how do I set it up as a base to get as close to the actual coordinates as possible and my second question is, what settings should I use for Trimble equipment apart from the messages as I know which are needed from reading different topics here. Thanks for all the help so far, almost there!
What systems you have??
I assume the intention is to use NTRIP, not Trimble radio. You are aware of the RTCM1008 stuff, what else is needed? RTKBase instructions and other existing threads here already cover the options to obtain the base coordinates.
GFX 750 and NAV 900
Yeah I plan to use NTRIP, I was wondering about the settings for RTKBase as I can’t find any threads where it’s been discussed before and also, I seen at one part of the set up instructions it said “make sure your router is configured correctly” what configuration of the router would cause the base to not work? Thanks for your reply!!
If there are no Trimble related specific open issues, I think it would be better to discus RTKBase related topics here if there is something that has not already been covered:
Is your intention to use the RTKBase caster or just forward correction data from RTKBase to an external caster? I believe the router configuration applies for the first case.
I have running several Trimble systems on my rtkbase stations. No problems with any of them.
I had intended to use the RTKBase caster, is there a downside to this aside from router configuration?
You need a public IP-address, not available everywhere. Need to forward the caster port on your router. I’m not qualified to comment on the security related topics. Hopefully safe, I use my own caster.
Router config only needed when you want acces to basestation for external accces to config it. Rest is plug and play. I did not have to open or forward a port just to make it work.
Can you confirm that you had the caster activated at the base, not just the server sending correction data to RTK2GO or similar casters?
I cannot see how the NTRIP client could reach the correct computer running the caster at your home network if no port forwarding was used.
No i use centipede
So should I go through RTK2GO or similar?
I would take other but no rtk2go. Read alot of trouble with that caster.
Your choice, I’d go for a private caster. You would know whom to blame if there is an issue (meaning you would not be dependent on others fixing their issues). I understand “RTK2GO and similar” if your internet service provider does not offer any public IP address.
Would be useful to know here why you are using Centipede instead of a private caster?
Because i like things easy haha. If i make own caster i need to run a pc or somekind to run 24 hours.
A good argument. But if you are already running RTKBase, you would not need any additional PC. RTKBase can handle the caster task. All you would need is to configure the caster within RTKBase and configure your router to make the RPi caster visible to internet.
Maybe good idea to check into that.
How would one go about configuring a router to allow a caster to be visible?
