Did you try it without the crossover cable?
Almost all laptops (I’ve never heard one of one without) network interface cards (Ethernet ports) have auto-mdix, they’ll automatically detect if crossover is required and automatically configure themselves to work properly with a straight cable.
You should just be able to use a normal cable and the laptop’s Ethernet port will do the crossing over for you automatically.
You’re right, then I think it’s an issue with my tablet, it didn’t work!

Most newer stuff is auto, but this is till good to know. It pops up from time to time.
For this reason I believe all cables should be crossover. The devices that need it would work and those with auto still work!
