Case IH 2388 combine

Installation of Hydraulic Autosteer on Case IH 2388 Combine

We have (2) 2388 combines with Trimble Ez-Pilot and FM750 displays. The displays seemed to not be working well anymore. We decided it was a great opportunity to try a hydraulic valve from Baraki.

Components of Build

  • AIO Board 4.5V Micro
  • FZ-G1 Tablet (with SIM card for NTRIP) and DIY Mount
  • Baraki LS 30l Valve
  • Land Rover WAS

I will be using our RTKBase station for corrections.

Some things I like about AgOpen

  • Output GPS to Precision Planting 2020 Yieldsense Used GPS-Out to send gps to 2020. One cool aspect that Agopen has over Trimble is the ability to use the Simulator to check if the 2020 is connected and receiving gps data!
  • When doing measurements on combine its really cool to be able take the tablet with and punch in measurements as you go!
  • Also a lot less clutter with a custom-made cable then having premade one-size-fits-all cables

I used this for reference throughout the build but didnt like where they mount the valve

There was a premade hole that I strung my cable through. Power cord is wired into battery power. The round switch is Master cutoff controlling relay giving power display,AIO box and Lock relay. The switch is lit only when main relay is on. I used keyed power so when shutting down nothing is left running. Cables going to valve go out of the cab under and behind master switch.

I mounted the steer engage button in an existing hole on the console(I had to enlarge it). Switch lights up when steer is activated.

Not sure if my valve mount will be rigid enough but we’ll see. As you can see in the picture I had to extend the pressure hose going to the valve. If someone is interested in hose measurements, I do have those available.

Combine is still in the shop getting maintenanced so I haven’t actually tried autosteering yet, I’ll try to post how that goes.

Thanks to all who make this project possible and for those that answered my questions!
